the kind of indepth comedy involved in a book that has running gags from beginning to end across 700+ pages cannot be properly translated into movie or tv media very well, so the book wins. the bbc series was much better at getting the whole story across, but the production values were bad enough to make it almost unwatchable. the movie was entertaining but did not address most of the humor in the book(what happend to throwing yourself at the ground and missing?).

The movie was an abomination. Check out the BBC series. Better acting and sadly enough, the effects back then were almost as good as the recent movie. Talk about a let down. Let's hope they don't remake Dr. Who.

Man, I loved that book (and the sequels) - but I hated the BBC show AND the movie. I guess because it was so much better in my mind while I was reading it.
