Circus-circus, Riviera, Sahara, Ip all fine & no reason to avoid any of them. Hotel room least of your issues in vegas

The best rates these days are found by checking the individual websites for each hotel. Most are offering rate guarantees that will meet or beat anything else found on the web, through the phone, or through a travel agent.

In general, the least expensive hotels on The Strip are as follows:
Stratosphere
Circus Circus
Imperial Palace
The Tropicana
The Sahara
The Frontier
Riviera

The first five are nothing special but are decent, usually with clean and comfortable and rooms. The latter two have definitely seen better days and I would only stay there if you absolutely can't afford anything else.

Having said that, late August (as long as it's before the Labor Day weekend) is one of the slowest and cheapest times of year, so you may be able to find rates you can be happy with at slightly better hotels like Excalibur, Bally's, Flamingo, Harrah's, and others.

Have fun!

First, when you look for a hotel in Vegas consider this. All of the big hotels on the Strip are great. The most important things to consider are location, price, and in the summer you want to consider its pool area. So, stay on the strip in the center of all of the hotel locations so that you can walk to see all of the hotels and casinos, and all of the free attractions. The best place to stay to do that is in one of the hotels on or nearest to Flamingo Rd & the Strip. At that corner is Ceasers, Bellagio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and the Paris hotels. I am not saying you need to stay in one of these but stay close to them. I do recommend the Flamingo and Monte Carlo if you are looking for a good price, location and pool.

The next thing to consider in picking the BEST place is price. Rates go down in the summer (and again after Thanksgiving, until about mid-January (except new years eve when prices double)). So pick a place that has the best price for you. Ceasers and Bellagio will cost top dollar all of the time (like $150 and up) per night during the summer. Flamingo, Ballys and some others you can get into for around $100 (but most times for less) during the low seasons. Its also more expensive in all Vegas hotels on Friday and Saturday nights by $40 to $60 more, so to get a lower rate go Sunday and stay through Thursday night.

In the summer you probably want to spend some time at the pool areas which in Vegas are fabulous. All of the big hotels have great pool areas. But the Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo and MGM hotels have wave pools, and lazy rivers for tubing or body floating. The Flamingo has a water slide (not big but nice and refreshing) and also a water fall.

I have stayed at Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, MGM, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Ceasers, the Rio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and Harrahs. But the BEST place for me when I go is who has the best price. Again, all of the Strip hotels are great. So shop the hotel web sites, look at the hotel rate calendars, and go when the price is the lowest. That's the best place to stay on the Strip.

You can probably get lower priced rooms at the Circus Circus, Sahara and Rivera on the north end of the Strip and also at the hotels on Fremont Street. But you will be a long way from the center of action and have to take a bus or taxi to Strip action. In addition, if you need to run to the room for a little R&R, it’s a long ways.

Rememberthat if you go to places like Expediaand Travelocity they advertise specials, but they are based on 'DOUBLE OCCUPANCY' which mean that you pay twice for the room. Hotel web sites are definately less.

Invest a little time by checking rates on a variety of different Travel web sites, including the hotels own site. I would also sign up for the mailing lists of the major hotels (MGM, Harrahs, etc), because they usually send out emails with special rates 2-3 months in advance. If you sign up for a Players Club card for each major chain (MGM Harrahs, etc), you will then get emails with special rates available only to Players Club members.

Keep in mind rates in Vegas depend on many factors, including what time of year, what day of week, is there a major event or convention in town at that time, etc.

If you make a reservation, check back on a regular basis, as rates will rise and fall without notice. If you see a lower rate after you make the reservation, contact the travel service/hotel and see if they will adjust your reservation.

Some very basic questions come to mind(I am Owner of a Travel Agency):

1-Do you have a specific checkin/checkout date in mind?
2-Going there alone or with others?
3-Do you have a maximum per night rate you want to pay?

Minor details for sure but important in that it helps in finding the best possible rates for Hotels on the Strip. If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with your criteria, I can see what's available on the LV Strip in late August that is economically doable for you.

I found really good deals on expedia.com the best ones. I have my plane tickets, my rental car, and my hotel for 4 nights for only $338 a person. and we are staying at the flamingo.

otherwise the stratosphere has really cheap rooms but at the end of the strip!
