Because of a device they put in vehicles now called a gulover (that's most likely spelled wrong) but it cuts a car off at a certain speed. It's a safety mechanism for the car so you don't blow the engine from going to fast.

Because auto manufacturers like to use the same parts for more than one vehicle if at all possible. This cuts down on cost (because they can order a larger bulk of the same part). Speedometers are all pretty much the same (at least within each manufacturer, they all connect to the same kind of computer using the same type of connections, and calculate voltage to speed ratios the same). So just because your car doesn't go 135, does not mean the next line over doesn't. But remember when it comes to speed of a car, usually there is a speed limiter called an electronic governor which stops your car from going over a certain RPM, this is what stops your car from going any faster. They do this so that you won't accidental over rev your engine and cause severe damage to your car.

the federal government has regulating rules of all vehicles in the U.S so they (automobile makers) placed governors in all vehicles so that the cars can only go a certain speed. plus, the police wants to make sure they can catch up to you and that you don't hurt anyone.Ha!Ha!

What do you have a Ford?

By the way a speed limiting device would be known as a governor.

because your car can acctually go that fast, but it has a guvoner in place, if you take of the guvoner your car will go 135 but the overwhelming amount of horsepower added with blow your head gaskets in a matter or days!!!
