Yes, pieces of a lung can be coughed up. I've seen it happen before while working at the hospital.

I once saw this guy with chronic cancer cough up small pieces of his lung on the Discovery channel. Thank god i stopped smoking 8 weeks ago. Well just an occasional toke now and again.

not the entire lung. that would be horrible! yuck. you can couch up parts of your lungs. my uncle told me this. he is a doctor. i think this happens to chronic smokers. not sure but i'm 75%
sure. not sure if it hurts but i'm sure it does.
