Anyone can learn to swim with proper coaching, but swimming fast requires commitment, skill and strength.
You must commit to swimming. It's a bit like running...do it once in awhile and all you'll feel is winded. It's a sport that must be done at least three times a week to maintain strength and speed. You must also commit to doing the strokes properly. This is a lifetime commitment, as it is easy to become lazy, which can slow you in the water.
The skill is partly learned, partly innate. You can take two swimmers who start swimming at the same age, put in the same commmitment, but one will be faster than the other. Anatomy can greatly influence a swimmer's performance. But you do have some control over skill. And it comes from practice, practice, practice.
Practice and commitment builds...strength. You have to be strong to be a swimmer. Strong arms, strong abdominal muscles, strong legs and feet for kicking. Some swimmers supplement their swim workouts with cross training or weights to increase strength.

im in the swim team.... kinda so i got lots.... ok so always do catch up cuz it's like you get to glide and you eventually get to go faster while doing freestyle... and always always keep your body straight. imagine yourself as a cylinder.... straight! as how to not get tired so easily... you jsut have to swim more... the more you swim... the more air your lungs can hold therefore you don't get that tired that easily... i swim a lot so yeah... sorry this isn't a lot but if you need more, email me or instant message or ill just come back here tomolo and give you more info lolz

Kick your feet really fast and then cup your hands and that is all you have to do! I do that when I am at a swim meet and I have been getting 2-3 places! So it really works! Try it!

Swim fins help immensely. Get yourself a pair. You can go so fast that you'd hurt your eyes if they weren't protected, so you'll need goggles or a mask too. A little motion gives a fair amount of propulsion, so you won't get as tired.

Here are some different swimming strokes. I use the front crawl while coming up for air every other stroke. Just takes practice. This link shows video clips of different strokes, gl!

you should take swim lessons. They will teach you how to swim but also once you know how to swim they will help you improve your technique and then you can swim faster.

learn: to feel the water with your palms, how to hold the right amount of air in your lungs, how to exhale the right amount of air at the right timing, streamlining your body, Newton's law: Action = reaction (push the water backward and you will go forward)
