I just saw this on TV. Tap water tastes worse but is regulated better and more free of pollutants. Bottled water tastes way better but some tested were slightly elevated in some pollutants but they were still within the legal allowances. I hope this helps!!!

Generally bottled water is better as it is purer. Where I live, the water has loads of chlorine (which is not good for you & it kills all of the germs) and a lot of other stuff which gums up the pipes. I hate to think what it is doing to my digestive system. Also, I heard somewhere that the water that I drink from the tap has been drunk 7 or 8 times before. Yuk! It is because of these impurities and cleaning chemicals which is why tap water tastes so revolting. I go by if bottled water tastes nicer (and it does) then it is better for you.
If the bottled water is spring water then that is an added bonus as it would have been cleaned well as it filtered through the rocks. Sometimes water stays in the rocks for thousands of years!

In the UK you can safely drink tap water. In some parts of the country, it is harder than in others (Birmingham has very soft water, Kent has very hard water). The difference between soft and hard water is the minerals (eg limescale in kettles and irons) it contains.
In Crete (where I am going on holiday!), although the tap water is safe to drink, it is very hard and can give you a tummy upset because you are not used to it.
Tap water in the UK has things added to it to help your health (eg flouride). Believe it or not, some companies have been fined because they have used tap water in them! Did you know that some bottled water companies take out the minerals and gas, then mix them back together so that every bottle is the same!
I also believe tap water is better for the environment - think about the plastic containers, the petrol used to get the water from where it is bottled to the shop, and from the shop to your house!
Aside from everything else, tap water is much more regulated than bottled water! Oh, and tap water is much, much cheaper!!!!

A lot of crap is talked by both sides. Tap water is very thoroughly filtered to get rid of bugs; mineral water is not, but then it doesn't have so many bugs to start with. Tap water is treated with a variety of chemicals depending on where it comes from. Here are some:
- very small residual aluminium sulphate or iron sulphate (from filtration processes)
- deliberately dosed Chlorine to keep the bugs dead (they'd sooner turn the water off than give you water that doesn't have enough Chlorine)
- lime (to balance the pH and, believe it or not, to reduce limescale)
- orthophosphoric acid - very small quantities added in areas where there are lots of lead pipes. The ortho coats the inside of the pipes and stops the lead leaching into the water.
In short, if it's gonna come through a pipe, it needs some or all of that to keep it good. If it's in a bottle it needs less or no tinkering.
Both are OK.

It really depends on where it comes from although it is usually considered that bottled water is better as the impurities have already been filtered out. You could use a water filter for the same effect with tap water but then you have to clean the filter regularly. Neither is really bad for you unless there is a specific problem with the water.

I personally like bottled water better, because it has a better taste. But tap water is constantly tested to make sure its safe, bottled water is tested least amount of times.

definitely bottled water. The reason that we buy bottled water is that regular tap water isn't good for you, and contains other stuff. Allow me to take this from somebody else.
mostly chlorine. I think a lot of the water fountains and tap water have chlorine in it to keep it safe. But some people are alergic to it, and it isnt the healthiest thing in the world. But it shouldnt do TOO much harm. In some other areas there might be a bit nastier chemicals like... mercury?
haha. But I think people boil the water first to kill any unwanted microsopic things that miught be livingn in there. But... I dont think having germies in water is that big of a problem in the U.S. eh. But i guess you can never be too safe.

Well I, only drink bottled water definitely if I'm somewhere I'm usually not, yes there is chlorine in your tap and that's just so it will look clean, but it all depends if you have well water, city water, hard water, or soft on what type you like. But read the water bottles, they are not just plain water, it has additives also right? :)
