good point on the 7 out of 10 view, unfortunately the 3 out of 10 are coming in the game deciding moments.

Manny is prone to K'ing on the high fastball, Ortiz has no known weakness, so no more "Manny" answers the question details already that I would rather face Manny so Manny is not a valid answer.

Once again redsoxfan answers one of my questions with absolutely no thought. I should've known. "Big Papi is the man" is not answering my question, it is running your mouth to be heard about something you probably don't know anything about. You probably became part the "nation" 2 years ago.Answer the question asked or stay out of it.

Mattanpan even though you also answered the obvious, you explained it out. Manny for avg. I got it. Personnally I still would trow to Manny (or walk em both and take my chances w/ whoever) but I guess that is it. Good Answer. Well done.

Your question is like asking how much is 1 + 1, but don't give me 2 as an answer. The answer is Manny Ramirez. He keeps the process honest. Look at the Angels. How good would Vladimir Guerrero be if he had Manny batting behind him, instead of a good hitter like Garret Anderson--who is comparable to a Trot Nixon kind of hitter for average? That is the only reason people are pitching to Big Papi, because Manny has his back and Manny hits for a better average than Big Papi and can slug with the best of them.

Because Big Poppi is the man, hes a rocket, Superman. And Pete is a hater.Oh I think someone is just a hater here, is that why you reported me?Were your feelings hurt and you were insulted??Well I'm insulted by you, someone who asks the dumbest questions on this thing. Not like its any of your business, because you are a very hateful and spiteful person, but I have been a loyal Red Sox fan for over a decade. And what I said is true, Ortiz is the best clutch hitter in the MLB, only the best of the best strike him out, or he hits something that pops out to right field.Hes an amazing player, if you watch him when hes at bat, you would see how hes patient, he waits until he gets that first strike, and then he just slams it.Hes a good player, plain and simple, even a Yankee fan cant discredit his ability. And the dude below me is right, Manny does have a better average, Ortiz hits what .262 or something, and Manny hits well over .300.

In a situation where Ortiz is the tying run or go ahead run, you do not want to walk him, particularily if there is less than 2 outs. This has nothing to do with being a Redsox fan or a Papi fan, it has to do with good baseball sense. Also as a Manager, ordering your pitcher to intentionally walk any batter can have a detrimental effect on a pitcher, particualrily a young one who still doesn't always understand the finer points of his strategy and intention. He may feel that he does not have enough confidence in him...this can hurt him with the next batter or even their relationship in later games.

The managers in the AL aren't wimps like those in the NL that refuse to pitch to Barry Bonds... Yes, it sucks to lose a game when Ortiz hits a game winning bomb (he did it to my Rangers this season), but I'd rather lose by trying to get him out than win by walking him and taking my chances against Manny, who's historically a better player than Ortiz...

I am an avid Red Sox fan, and I totally agree with you. Ortiz is currently the best clutch hitter in baseball. Why they continue to pitch to him with the game on the line is beyond my understanding. However, I hope they keep doing so!!

Go Red Sox!!

It's because if you don't pitch to him you have to face Manny.

That's why Ortiz has been able to become Big Papi...because of Manny being Manny.

You have the possiblity of Him striking out or sending a fly ball to an outfielder.

Then you have Manny up next who could hit into a double play or strike out.

Papi has been know to strike out to end a game.

But it doesn't happen very often.

sure he might get out 7 out of 10 times but thats an awesome average. compare big papi to any other player in baseball right now he is the greatest atm.(at the moment). there is only one weakness in him... his speed. if he was as fast as ichiro he would be one of the best players ever. GO SOX

Because people think that with Manny behind him, and a shift on him, they can get him out. Don't forget that you have Youkillis and Loretta in front of him, which are both .300 hitters, leaving not a lot of choices. So they throw the ball....
