Your washer is off-balance, and therefore it is moving all over the floor. You need to put some things under the little metal feet to prevent this from happening. You can use folded-up cardboard, or get some rubber thingies from the hardware store. Just keep adjusting whatever you put under the little metal feet until your washer gets balanced.

The leveling legs are most likely not set properly. To start off you must determine whether you have "self leveling" legs on the rear of the washer. Many manufacturers put these on the new machines. You also must determine that the rubber pads have been installed onto the leveling legs as they will help prevent walking. Adjust all legs or the front legs if there are self adjusters in the rear so the legs are turned all of the way into the machine. It is best to start with the legs this way so the machine does not become "top heavy". You can have the machine sitting perfectly level but if the legs are turned too far out of the machine it will still walk all over the place so it is important to start with them into the machine as far as possible. If you have self leveling legs, with the machine in place, tilt the machine forward so the rear legs are approx. 1ft. off the floor and let the machine down and this will set the rear legs. Then you can adjust the front legs to make the machine sit flat and not rock from corner to corner. If you do not have self leveling legs with the machine in place rock the machine from corner to corner and adjust the legs out so it sits flat and stable. If you turn a leg out and the machine rocks the other way you should turn the leg back a little rather than turn another leg out remembering that you do not want the machine to become "top heavy". Your machine does not need to be perfectly level but it should be relatively flat. Once you have the machine sitting level tighten the nuts on the leveling legs so this setting will not change if the machine is moved and you can just place the machine back into position and you will not need to readjust.

Get yourself a bar level, or any tyoe of level, place it DIAGONALLY across the top of the washer. some washers have adjustable feet, if yours does, adjust those accordingly until it is level, if not, place jambs of wood or rubber (any material would do) under the feet, again until level.

then, place the level across the other diagonal, and level it the same way.

that should stop the moving. if not, you could screw a few "L" brackets into the floor, and put a cut of wood between them and the washer, like a vice grip, to keep it in place. the wood is to protect the washer from the brackets so that they do not damage it.

It needs to be leveled. Usually the "feet" of the washer are like screws where you can adjust them....probably the floor is uneven if it's an old house so you might have to toy with it a bit to get it right. Try adjusting a little at a time until you get it right. Good luck.

Well, I'm going to guess that your new washer is a front loading machine. Front Loaders will vibrate and shake because of the orientation of the spinning drum, and the fact that they don't have anything to conterbalance the vibration forces.
I have heard of people putting down four concrete patio blocks 12"x12"x2.5"on a piece of carpet, under the legs to dampen the vibration, or possibly try putting a 1/2" piece of Hardibacker cement board under the entire washer.
Hope this helps

Balance the washer out it is most likely uneven with the floor being that the house is old... try some plywood or something of that sort I hope that helps ;o)

There are little feet under all four corners of the washing machine that can be turned clockwise and counterclockwise that are used to level the machine. Get a level and set it on the front and sides of the machine and adjust the little feet up or down as needed. There should be instructions in your manual. If all else fails, you can use wooden shims. Good luck.

1. Make sure machine is perfectly leveled
2. Cut small squares from old innertube to place under each foot to increase friction and stop easy movement

Caution: rubber may permanently stain wood over time

first balance the washer and then I would put either rubber feet or a piece of carpet under each foot. make sure the laundry loads are evenly distributed inside and this shouldn't happen

Watch how you load it, You need to balance the load weight evenly... if you get it right every time the washer will not move all over.. It also sounds like you may be overloading it..
