Im not afraid of people and I really do not catogorize a person as being a freak or someone wearing booty shorts thats really ridiculous if a person wants to express themselves in a creative way then that is fine but really we are what televison makes us so you can't really consider yourself as an individual becasue you wear black and chains and all that eveyone is a mirror copy of something that was introduced to us.

There are a lot of misconceptions, the major one being about religion. Most people think goths worship satan which scares the fundamentalists and gives them a scapegoat. What I find to be incredibly hilarious is that goth culture puts a great amount of value on knowledge and goths tend to know more about religion than the fundamentalists.

Because you wear big heavy chains that you could possibly put around any ones neck and choke them. and they all act like devil worshipers. I also wonder why you have to put hundreds of pointy safety pins on your clothes. It freaks me out. Why can't you just wear clothes like everyone else...you don't have to wear butt crack wearing jeans...and listen to your music. What's with the clothes? And it seems to me that you're stereotyping all the other girls who aren't goth already, so don't get mad when we stereotype you.

I think people are intimidated by the self-confidence of anyone who dresses differently from the norm. It's easy to go to Old Navy and where what everyone else is wearing (that's what I do), but to choose to stand apart shows that you know yourself and like yourself. I think people assume that goths are serious and are intimidated by them.(I suspect many are a little jealous that they don't stand out and that they aren't confident enough to choose to stand out).

I tried the goth style for a while, and I wondered the same thing. I find less reason to be afraid of true goths than my own neighbors.

Black= color or death
you look like zombies and vampires
chains= could choke us with it
u all look scary
the music is fine
the clothing scares me 2 death
u dont have to be one of those preps with short tight pants
and keeping ur hair perfect
just be yourself
goths are the scariest freakin clique/stereotype there is!
forget about the dumb stereotype stuff like preps nerds and goths.
we need 2 rid ourselves of cliques and stereotypes. its wrong

i don't think people are afraid of you but rather they don't understand you.
in fact i love you guys i have a few friends that are goth and one of my fav. days working at Disneyland was black Sunday. you guys are just like everyone else.
however, i think you are crazy when you wear leather in a 100 degree weather. but i think everyone is crazy who wears pants in 100 degree weather.
i try not to stereotype you guys but many people only know of goths due to music Ozzy and Manson in particular. biting a bats head is rather crazy. OK and you called yourself a freak i don't think you are any more of a freak then my friends are.
therefore:
1) if you are labeling yourself as a freak, then people are going to assume you are one.
2) if you are judging other people (saying my hair is messed up etc etc) you are making fun of them and that does allow them to make fun of you.
in conclusion if you don't want them to judge you don't judge them. not everyone is capable of wearing black in the summer and not everyone is capable of wearing short shorts in public.

People fear what they don't understand or relate to. I appreciate the differences among society and judge personality and intelligence over appearance. Some can't do that!!
Never be what you are not despite the pressure and baby, please hit spell check every once in a while!!
Best of luck to you!!

I am not afraid of goths or freaks. I don't know anyone that is. I don't suggest one goes on a job interview dressed in that manner, but I if that's what you do in your own time, more power to you.
