they don't have to take the blame, they put up measures to protect children online, if the children go out of their way to get around the barriers set up for them, then it is not myspaces fault.

I agree with you. MySpace was originally a site for bands to connect to others and to find an audience. Now with everyone on, it has evolved into a place to connect with others. Unfortunately, as with any site online where people connect (chat rooms, forums, other sites like MySpace) there are going to attract the seedy perverts of the world as well. The fact that young people (teenagers) post to these sites and do things to draw even more attention to themselves (like posting "come hither" pictures and providing too much personal information) only encourages behavior from the scums of the earth.
If anyone is to blame, most of the burden should be placed on parents. There are many means today of monitoring internet usage and it is sad that it needs to be done... but we are in a different day and age than we have ever been in the past. Parents know to monitor who their kids hang out with or where they go... they are comfortable controlling what kids watch on t.v. or listen to musically, so they need to wisen up about the internet. It may be that some parents are not technologically savvy, so they aren't aware of the possible dangers or the things they can do to help prevent these related crimes. Still... in the end, we are responsible for doing everything we can to protect our children and to teach them how to protect themselves. It isn't just "Don't talk to strangers" or "Never get into the car with a stranger"... it is much more.
With regards to internet sites where people meet My Space just happens to be the most popular, so it is taking the majority of the heat.

Yes- the child has to take responsibility for talking and meeting with someone they met online. They know better, but it is exciting for someone to take an interest in you. Predators make you feel special - especially when your parents do not.
BUT - was the child being properly supervised by the parent? Was the computer in her bedroom or other "private" place (such as the home office or den?) Did the parent ask who she talks to online?
Parents have to take responsibility for what their children do. Whether it's on the phone, online or dropping them off at the mall. The parent(s) have to ask who the child is meeting or hanging out with, chatting on the phone or online.
My Space is just the conduit. Social Network sites it make it way easier to meet others. But the parents need to be part of their childrens daily lives so they know what the child is getting into. The computer/internet has become a babysitter for kids. The parents are so involved with their work or life in general that they forgot that they are to parent the child - not tell the kid to get away from them, or "don't bother me right now"
Parents: play with your children. Take them to the park, or library. Sign them up for sports or dance classes.
Keep the kids busy and they will not have the time to get involved with a Predator online.

I agree. Parents need to stop blaming myspace and start taking action for what their kids are doing. If the parents kept a better eye on what their kids were doing none of that would have happened.

If there weren't kids, then there wouldn't be child molestors! Then it's the parents fault for making the kids, The computer mfg's fault for not putting a warning sticker about predators on the CPU, Myspace's fault for letting the kids go global, ISP's fault for facilitating the whole darn thing, and child-molestors fault for molesting children.
Aaaah I love America! Blame blame blame LOL

It has basically opened up this whole new world where child predators can get to your kid right at home...
I had a myspace and it does depend on the children, but they do need to do more about protecting kids and parents need to do their part as well.
It's not a bad thing here, they just don't want kids getting hurt.

My 8 year old is smart enough to get past the barriers that myspace has online, so it's my responsibility to make sure that I put up additional barriers, and monitor what he does. Parents need to be more aware of what their children are doing, and taking the blame for not being responsible for the children's safety.

I think its not their problem but they should have like some kind of age thing for the teens and the adults, because they know things like that happen all the time and who ever came up with myspace is goin to have a big problem now just cause of that

Lemme play devil's advocate here for a second. Some kids just don't use common sense, nor are they always as innocent as we would like to think. Like mother like daughter. There was this one case where a 17 year old girl was chatting with a so-called 'teenager.' He tried to pick her up from her school, and she went with him! I woulda ran after seeing how old he was. They ended up having sex int he girls house, but it wasn't until AFTER the mama busted them that she cried rape. And she STILL didn't do anything! Still, a 17 year old and a 50 year old don't have jack **** to talk about unless they're related. If that were my daughter, I would happily face the death penalty for her. Ain't no fat ************ gonna stick his dick in my kid!
Myspace is designed for teens and young adults. I have an account there myself, and the site is very large. People expect the site to better police themselves, but this is America, man! Girls do lie about their ages trying to get guys in trouble. I've had to card a girl before I slept with her. She got offended and left. Good.

I don't think it's ENTIRELY the fault of Myspace. I think that parents need to be more aware of what their children are doing, who they are seeing and what they are doing online.
I think also that parents ought to impress upon their kids the dangers of meeting strangers, or people you have been chatting to online.
There's nothing wrong with meeting people you've been talking to online, but you have GOT to be aware of the dangers, and take the necessary precautions.
