SOS!!! Will someone please write me a HTML script that will block abusers?

I am being over-run by creatures trying to advertise their businesses on my guestbook. Ringtones is the worst, but I've had Foot Fetish, Free Credit Check, and even a Las Vegas resort hotel, and I've had enough, by cracky! An html block may not work on my particular guestbook but I can try, can't I? Nothing much else I can do. They leave fake email addresses and in some cases fake--or incorrect URLs. Duh!

One quick change that may throw them off for a bit is to change the name of the page. How these things usually work is they have code that looks for guestbooks on the internet and then when it finds it they have automated scripts that start posting messages to them. If the name of the page is changed their scripts should break. This doesn't solve the problem though. You will need to change the server side code that process the messages, as the other posters said. You will need to check for certain flags. I usually don't allow anything with "http" in the subject or message. You can also block certain IP addresses though these can very as they usually use a variety of servers to run this thru.

You can do it two ways:

block IP addresses- not completely reliable as IPs can change and AOL has a limited number of IPs and can assign more than one to a person.

do it the way I have seen a lot of blog pages (and others) which is generate an image with random letter gibberish and make sure the user enters the right info.

I haven't yet done that second option yet, but am planning to shortly for my site, still under construction. What sort of server side scripts are in use?

Do you know what server-side programming language is your guestbook written in? You will need to use that language to write your own block script unless you want to re-write the whole guestbook in the language that you you know and deploy it on the server; but that may not work because your web hosting plan may not support it.
