My son just turned 6 months. When he was at his 4 month check up the doctor asked me if I had stared him on any food. I told her yes he is starting to eat some jar food. She told me as long as he wanted it and was doing fine with it, it was ok to give it to him. Now he is eating a small bit for breakfast. a full jar for lunch and anywhere from one to one and a half jars for dinner. I never tried before bed but I might do that, sounds like a good idea. So to answer you question no you are not feeding your baby to much. Good luck to both of you and I hope this helped you.

It sounds a little early and a little much to be feeding your baby at 5 months, but it really depends on individual history, pediatrician's recommendations, and your own feelings. If you have followed the doctor's lead, you can't really fault that. Under normal circumstances, however, anything other than breast milk or formula is really not needed nutritionally until a baby reaches 6 months of age. I know that many mothers feel that it will help their baby to sleep through the night sooner, and I'm certain that there are as many stories to validate and invalidate this as their are babies.

I hope everything continues to go well for you.

Precisely *none*. A 5 month old is too young to digest solids, so you should not give her *any*. Some time between 6 and 12 months old, she will be more able to safely get solids.

I think that you mean, finely pureed solids?
You are doing exactly as I did with my own. She is now 7 months old, and I actually have to go to the store (Today!!) to upgrade her. She is ready for stage 3 foods and some sort of baby crackers as she has 2 + teeth.
Listen to your baby. They will tell you. If they are peeing, pooping and sleeping, then you are doing good!

It quite varies from toddler to toddler, yet my ped counseled 3 servings of solids an afternoon by technique of seven-8 mos. My son became eating solids at breakfast, lunch, and dinner by technique of round 6 mos. He'd have fruit and oatmeal for breakfast, vegetables and rice for lunch, and meat & vegetables for dinner.

5 months is ok, the experts say 4-6 months, though it is unecessary before 6 months. At that age, I gave my daughter little bits of barley mash cooked in organic beef broth with apple sauce (all homemade) to "play" with whenever we sat down to eat and she expressed interest in eating too. Since she expressed interest in being a part of our family meal times, I let her in a no pressure way. Don't push food at all though, since it is absolutely nutritionally unimportant at this stage, if you want to introduce her to food, it's not going to harm her at 5 months, but breast milk or formula should be her primary source of substenance for the first year.

Anon - your information is ABSOLUTELY FALSE regarding 6 weeks vs. 6 months, early feeding is associated with digestive problems, food allergies and weight problems.

No that sounds about right, I have two myself and from what I remember i was giving them about the same at that age - neither of them have any weight problems! That is rubbish the 6 months before feeding them solids - IT IS SIX WEEKS NOT SIX MONTHS!!!!

Zero. Solids are usually recommended no earlier than 6 months.

My babies peditrician said that age was fine...although my babies didnt know what to do with the food once it was in their mouth so I was told to try again in about a month..if you're unsure just ask your babies ped.
