I hate it when people do that.
I'd tell them the truth. And say something like, "All I can tell you is the truth. Apparently, you have more time on your hands to make-up stories, than to consider factual evidence."
Mention that it really disappoints you that they would even say that of you. Whatever you say, avoid statements that sound angry. Usually when you're angry over it, people think that means you did it, like, if you didn't do it, you'd be more reasonable about being accused or something. I know sounds ridiculous. But that's how it works, if you're hysterical, you lose all credibility. Avoid words like "Accuse, deny, or proof" try to pick educated sounding words. If they think you're smarter than they are, they will feel so stupid for suggesting you could be low enough to do something that reprehensible. No screaming or threatening! :) Good luck with that. We all know you didn't do it. :)

I would say "that's ridiculous." If it is really not true, than I wouldn't respond again unless they think they have "proof."
