I have a network setup and can share files. I just can't get the process of setting up a printer on a remote computer to work. I have the name of the network and the printer - I'm probably just not using some configuration option right.

If you are trying to setup a remote printer that's attached to another computer, the computer name and printer are important. the names are case sensitive.

run the add printer wizard. select "a network printer or printer attached to another computer"

click next

select "Connect to this printer". enter the computer name and printer name like this: \\computername\printer

if successful then your system will automatically connect to the printer and ask if you want to set this printer as the default printer(if there is another printer already installed) and aks if you want to print a test page.

Good luck!!

Several possible solutions, depending on exactly what the problem is.
First, make sure the printer on the remote computer is shared.
Second, make sure there are no firewall settings on your computer or the remote one that prohibit sharing the printer.
Third, make sure your computer and the remote computer are on the same network.
Fourth, rather than trying to install the remote printer through the "add printer" wizard, try accessing it through "network neighborhood". (I assume you're not using a domain).
