Because you are looking at what you have and may be tired of it. Something else comes along and you think wow. It's not always greener. Sometimes you have to learn to appreciate what you have while you have it.

Something new is always attractive. It's the unknown & the curiousty that draws you in.

Because imagination and fantasy frequently convince us that reality will be better IF...

Because familiarity breeds contempt--meaning that the longer we experience something, the more familiar it becomes, and therefore we are no longer enamored with it but come to detest it in some ways.

Because the mind is the creator of illusions and rarely learns from the past--meaning that a lot of what we have now, we once dreamed about, fantasized about, wanted, and went after ... but now that we have it, we are no longer as interested, and so our mind creates the illusion that if we just have something ELSE, then we will be satisfied.

What people forget is: "Wherever you go, there you are." This alludes to the fact that even if you get what you want (that is, the "greener side"), you will still be the same easily discontented person, and you will eventually dream up some other thing to want instead, having come to grow disenchanted with the thing you once sought so hard

But the key in your question is "seem." The grass only seems greener. It isn't any greener. It is just not your grass, and so you want it.

The "remedy" to this is to begin to practice wanting what you have. Look at your life and see the gifts that are yours; cultivate gratitude for those gifts. Instead of looking at your life and seeing what you don't have, which is a certain recipe for unhappiness, boredom, discontent, and envy.

An enlightened person wants what he or she has, and the illusion that things are better "over there" goes away.

Because that grass isn't ours and we always wonder what it would be like to have it.....no matter wheather it's someone's grass, house, husband, thin body....we always think no matter what it is it HAS to be better than our own. Believe me, I thought the exact same thing and divorced my husband in 1999 and truly realized that the GRASS IS NOT GREENER.....BUT DEADLY BROWN!!!! I ended up remarring my husband in 2002 and now know that all grass is brown, not greener!!! Not until we get to heaven will the grass be truly green!

It is a good thing that I heard once and I follow often.....

Before we set our minds too fully on something, we have to first look at how happy the people who already possess it are...

Goes right along with the grass is greener thing.

No matter where you go; there you are. Which is to say that the grass looks greener because you think you can leave your problems behind you. You can't. Wherever you run to, you take your own personal baggage and therefore your problems with you. In fact running someplace else usually just compounds your problems.

It seems greener because you're not actually over there. It's like looking at the earth from outer space. From out there it looks peaceful, calm, beautiful. But get down here? Garbage, war, pollution, death, destruction, rape, murder, etc... When you're standing on the outside of something it always looks better than when you're actually in it.

The grass on the other side is not real, its fake. Just like my former high school football field. The grass was no grass at all, although it look like one.

Grass is grass no matter where you stand. Some things are not always as they seem to be.
