I think you have to consider the source for either. I often think of "news" as being the newspaper articles that are of current events, not always accurate nor researched.

I think of "information" as something that has factual evidence behind it to back it up. Sort of like going to www.webmd.com for articles on certain health issues.

I'll have to agree. They're about the same. Even if it's a hundred years old, and you never heard it - it's news to you!
