Personally, I am not a drinker nor a smoker (of either drugs or cigarettes) but I believe the benefits of legalizing marijuana are HUGE. First and foremost, we are losing TONS of money trying to curb the drugs that come from central and latin America...If we make such drugs readily available these drug lords' profits will be cut OVERNIGHT. Secondly, marijuana has some medical benefits and helps in the ease of pain of many patients. Lastly, to those of you who say this will destroy our future generations...All i can say is...LET THEM BE DESTROYED...They should realize and recognize the consequences of their actions and if they become addicted and hooked...thats their problem...They shoud be smarter than to try drugs.

In response to luke who said my children would be negatively affected as a result of the legalization of marijuana (or any drug for that matter) all I can say is that hopefully I raise my future sons or daughters to be smarter than to try such harmful substances.
P.S. Ironically im the supposed "age" where one experiments with such substances...Im 19 :D

In the end it is the parent's responsibility to make sure his or her child is raised in an appropriate manner. That is not the job of the government.

You are right. Marijuana does not lead to other drugs. The people who are stupid enough to just try the other drugs get addicted. The information is out there. I smoked for years (years ago) and it did NOT lead to other drugs (and I have an addictive personality). We need to pay attention to the stuff like heroin, meth, crack, coke, etc. Those are the killers (son is a heroin addict - 26 years old) and they need to be stopped. Nothing bad happened when all he did was smoke pot.

No, it should not be legalized. Trying to solve a problem by taking away restrictions will not be very beneficial and it will create a whole new set of problems: 1) lawsuits; 2) pharmaceuticals mess; millions of local street drug dealers out of work (just kidding); and much more. Why not deal with the problems at had instead of trading in these problems for new ones. Just look at the cigarette and alcohol mess. Don’t be fooled. If your government wanted to curb drug activity, they could. It is not a priority and too many higher ups are benefiting.

Yes. It would cut some of the costs for drug traffic enforcement. Then they can concentrate on the real drugs, plus the govt would be pulling in tons of money through sin tax ( it's on cigarettes & alcohol already) . They could have better control over sales of it if they wanted even..like they do with some over the counter cold medicines which have been used for making Meth. Some of the companies here won't let you buy more than a certain amount in a 24 hr period. Plus if they put filters on the marijuana cigarretes it would cut down on some of the toxins, I'm sure if the govt let them Phillip morris and all the cigarrete companies would be all over it.

I basically agree with you. In addition, hemp is a stronger material than cotton and can be grown with fewer chemicals such as fertilizer, etc.
Also, prison overcrowding would be greatly reduced.
The drug companies stand to lose, literally, millions of dollars if marijuana were legalized. We would have a safer and cheaper alternative to many of the drugs we are forced to buy now.
In conclusion, given the choice, I would rather have my family riding in a car driven by someone high than someone who has been drinking.
Tobacco is legal, but pot isn't? That is total BS.
Let the kneejerk conservative responses begin!

Tha amount of money that could be made off of Marijuana is incredible... I bet it could pay for some good armor for our troops! Besides... kids are going to get a hold of drugs some how - some way and at some point in thier life, just like cigarettes and alcohol. It should be up to the parents to talk about the effect and harm of doing drugs. I feel that parents are just too consumed with thier own lives to take the time to talk to thier kids about drugs and want the govenrment to do it for them. In the land of the free, shouldn't I be free enough to decided what I want to do with my life?

thats a good point u bring up in the end. but if it is legalized it would be that much easier for younger kids to "experiment." also, the young may get the impression that if it is legal, then maybe there is nothing wrong with it. many wont listen to teachers, parents, mentors, etc... as a part of the youngs rebellious attitude. the thing thats so bad with marijuana is that it is more addicting than cigarrettes and has many adverse affects that the user may not know about. there is much, much more that can be said, but the list is endless..........

I would have been with you until your last "All I can say" statement.
We make decisions for the direction of our future generations. Smoking and drinking didn't happen because people in the future decided to make it happen, it was because people in the past decided to make it happen.
What you do today, *will* directly effect what happens tomorrow.
I am not sure why we should legalize one more thing that could be detrimental to society. So, I vote no.

First, we need proper throughout testing if it is as hazardous as some sources say. however it has it's 'right' and 'wrong' use, personally i think the rastafarians use it correctly, and the pot-brains (using it for ''wee i'm high") use it wrong way.
Personally no, i don't condone any such practice, unless proved to be non-hazardous. Smoking, and other addictions are for fools.

you are missing the point pal.
Who says whether its legal or not? Government
Who makes no money off of it now and when its legal? Government
Why do you think booze and cigarettes are legal despite it kills lots of people. Because the goverment makes money.
Find a way for goverment to make money off of drugs and hookers and it no longer is illegal.

I do not use marijuana but I think it should be legal for over 21. It is not any different than drinking. It should be under the same laws as liquor.
