I would like to start a product based business...and I am located in toronto,canada. I would like to import some type of item (pens, software, cashmere sweaters, lighters, t-shirts, etc.) but I don't know what. Anyone with ideas?

You should check first and see who your competitors are and how much are they selling similar products for. You also have to ask yourself why would a consumer want to buy your products when there are already similar products on the market. Can they get it cheaper from you or is there something special about the products you get that would make them unique?

Why don't you import a *small* quantity of these items and test them out and see how they sell.

If you don't do your research you may get stuck with a container of items that you can't move.

Also check http://www.alibaba.com for leads.
