I don't know if we can ever "return to normal." I do not think things have ever been "normal." It seems to me that two very cliched statements explain the current situation very well.

You get the elected officials you deserve. If you don't vote, you let others decide the fate of you and your children.

If you give up liberty for safety, you'll get neither liberty, nor safety (think this was said originally by Ben Franklin).

After 9/11 this nation was justifiably frightened. However, the solutions put in place jeopardized the liberties guaranteed in our constitution and the bill of rights.

The end result is what you see now, and out of control government spending vast sums of money on a war based on lies. I think that the motto for the 2008 election should be, "Throw the bast..ds out!" Our solution is to vote against any and all incumbents no matter what there record. It all happened on their watch. Although congress and the senate are supposed to represent their individual constituencies, they are also under a moral obligation to do what is right, not what is popular or expedient.

So, the motto for 2008 for all of us should be : Throw the Bastards Out and Start Over!

I would ask that balance be restored so that we can function once again as a true democracy. We can not fix our problems with separation and alienation. We must restore trust in our government and elected officials who have set a bad example for the American people to follow. If our leaders can not get along then how can Americans. It is the responsibility of our President and Majority and Minority Leaders to bring Americans together once again and that is what we intend to do in November.
