I simply would not engage in anything the day before so as not to have anything to "cover up". This is not so I will not be "caught" but rather to present an "uncompromised" sample of cells for any lab work. It is in fact, recommended that you do not have intercourse from 24-48 hours prior to your visit. Likewise it is recommended to go to the gyn mid cycle to have "clearer" cell samples for Pap tests etc. The whole point of having the exam is to determine your medical/health status so I would be willing to forgo any "activity" to get the most out of my medical exam...
Hope this answers your question.

Doctors usually order 'pelvic rest' before the yearly check up... Others have said it - but I'll say it again - it can interfere with results of the pap smear! And because the doctor is literally scraping cells from the cervix it may enhance discomfort for your partner during the exam...

You're not supposed to have sex the night before....not because he might know that you did, but because it can mess up the results of a Pap smear, or any other test you're having done. No way to cover it up.

I don't have sex the night before I have a PAP. I don't know if the doctor can tell or not, but it is simply a courtesy. I also shave my legs and take a shower.

It is Ok to let the doctor know unless I was told not to have sex before the check-up. We are both adults

You really shouldn't because evidence of it leaks out for a while and it can alter the results of some of the tests. Nothing you can really do to hide the evidence.

Yes the doctor can tell. No the doctor doesn't care. My doctor knows I'm married. And if you aren't your doctor still doesn't care. They just offer condoms. WooHoo free rubbers.
