Greece, and Rome both excellent examples of civilizations which gave over to excess and as a direct result fell. How does the USA seem to fit in the mix, doesn't it appear we are headed in the same direction?!

The USA had ideals and principals when it was a young country. Now it's become obnoxious, brazen, arrogant, bullying, loud, "my way or the highway" country. Just like ancient Greece and Rome it's headed for disaster and it's sad. History always repeats itself.

While it certainly appears that we are in the autumn of our empire, who's to say? Name one major civilization on this planet that isn't greedy, self-serving, etc.

Still, yeah... probably. Really, though, it doesn't come from any sort of "lack of God" so much as from too much comfort. When you have less to worry about on a daily basis than folks in, say, Iraq or Sierra Leone, it's easy to slack off, feel entitled, and become selfish. The more self-serving, bloated, soft, and lazy people become, the more the workings of society do the same, until the whole thing collapses "like a flan in a cupboard."

However...

"Immorality," "evil," "wickedness," etc. are all relative. What one country considers "evil" another considers "good." Who's right? They're just cultural and ideological differences. When it comes to "morality," there are few, if any, absolutes.

A note on "idolatry," btw: If you follow most any organized religion -- be it Christianity, Islam, whatever -- you are likely committing a form of idolatry without realizing it. Any ceremony or ritual or belief that you imbue with importance beyond its ability to put you in the right state of mind becomes a golden calf...

The test: Imagine someone joins your religion and believs in the ideas, but rejects the tradtional ceremonies and rituals, opting instead to commune with God in their own personal way (which is very different from yours). If you get upset that they're not following the proscribed rituals, or you feel like they're not going to be "saved" because they're not "doing it right," then you're committing a form of idolatry. You've turned your rituals into golden calves and you're dancing around them... You're worshipping the ceremony instead of the meaning behind the ceremony...

Also: For those of you who say things like "The U.S. is definitely going to fall if it doesn't stop abortion, drug use, gay marriage, etc, etc" -- ALL countries and people commit things you would consider sins and "against God." If your logic were true, EVERY country would fall soon... The U.S. isn't special in its iniquity.

In any event, by your own belief system, it's not yours to judge. How do you know all this "sin" isn't "part of God's plan..."

It's so obvious, I doubt anybody misses it.

Only the media goes Pollyanna on you. In my own mind, from everywhere I've been, all that I've experienced, the U.S. fell a while ago along with all the other countries. These are dead political entities.

I felt like I missed a golden opportunity when someone asked; do you think the U.S. is uniquely evil.

Which is a devious question.

Of course it is.

ALL countries are ' unique ' in their own evil.

What would really have cleared the playing field would've been to say, no, the U.S. isn't " uniquely " evil; it is absolutely evil. As in Satanic.

I doubt anybody is going to argue. I don't like putting that in there because it sounds like I'm attempting to prosletyze. I'm not. I believe that, but I just say it in an attempt to be as accurate as possible.

I believe better times are coming, but not for everyone. Hope this answers your question. It's an honest take on what you can't miss anywhere.

I sincerely agree with you. Religion, especially Christianity, has been under assault for a long time now. I truly believe that we will lose freedom of religion very soon. Couple of decades at least.
Once that happens, this country will fall.
And I heard somewhere that governments/civilizations never went past a certain amout of time. I think it was 200 or 300 years. Unfortunately I can't find any information about it.
And if that is true it may apply to this government as well.

I agree. I like to flirt with the theory that immigration will somehow lead to a the fall of the "American Empire"; not that I'm blaming anybody, but it does happen to coincide with the times, AND there has to be some sort of reason why it's a major issue, right?
The way I see it, it's about time to prepare for a new America.

Most of the time throughout history it was more of an issue of conquering other civilizations and becoming to large and diverse. That was usually the dowfall.
Conquering, converting, assimilating.
That's kind of how we've been and where we're going currently.
It will happen eventually
