First off...what in the hell is all of this talk about "accidently" shooting somebody? When you draw a gun you had better intend to use. They aren't for bluffing. Guns are fine as long people have some idea of what the hell to do with them. I am born an raised in the country. I have been around guns all my life and have carried one since I was 16 (no this is not about legal or not...that answer is simple...this is about common sense) and in the last 15 years of carrying one I have drawn my gun once and yes, I had every intention of shooting the fella I drew it on...no questions asked. Luckily the situation was diffused. The question though is rather open and I think that the only answer needed is common sense. Does the person carrying the firearm have the common sense to be carrying a gun. Unfortunately I think that, no, most people have no right to own one let alone carry it. Don't carry one without knowing how to use it, without being able to hit what you're aiming at or without being willing an able to draw an use it should the need arise to protect ones self or others. I'm sure that I am gonna piss off boat loads of people with this answer, especially saying that most people shouldn't even be allowed to own one but...so be it. The idea that you should have and carry a gun just because it's the "ghetto"is ridiculous. The whole "he has one so I want one" line is a bunch of crap. And yes...I have been to the ghetto. My line of work takes me all over the country an into some very unhealthy neighborhoods. I just think that it's a bad idea if the person isn't trained. If you're trained and aware...good head on your shoulders...carry all ya want

No, it's not. A gun is only as good as your intention to use it. If you won't use it, then it's just a big metal rock, and what's the point of carrying it? If you do intend to use it, then every time you have an altercation, the gun is going to be the first thing you think of and will naturally cause the situation to escalate every time.
I live in Toronto, and it used to be that the worst you really had to worry about was getting into a fist fight--or someone pulling a knife on you. Now guns are being smuggled into the country from the United States (you can't just buy them at Walmart here) or stolen from private gun owners and sold on the street, and there has been more gun violence here in the last 2 years than in the last 10 combined.

It would be quite an adjustment in practical terms for people in this country-- we've lived so long without them that most people, through no fault of their own, aren't familiar with guns and how to keep and use them safely.
At first, it might be a little chaotic and dangerous if everyone started carrying guns with them, but I think the problems would iron themselves out pretty quickly. Criminals would start to think twice before assaulting or robbing someone.
In Switzerland, it is REQUIRED for all males between 18 and 60 to carry guns with them-- and their crime rate has plummeted. The citizens are responsible for the safety of their communities, not the government. The most efficient measure are good police forces, which we have. But, in addition to that, I think it would be helpful if everyone knew how to use a gun properly.
Currently, of course, this is illegal in most places, and the extra security you gain while carrying is not worth breaking the law. Of course, responsible citizens must (almost) always obey the law. But hopefully the laws will change, and the rights of the second amendment will actually be available to us again.
In the meantime, don't use a gun illegally, and if you can use it legally, make sure you know how to use it safely.

We have the "right to keep and bear arms" however, that right comes with an obligation to keep the gun at home. The reason you can't carry it at all times is that you/may might mistakenly use it when you percieve threat...In other words IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT. The reason you can have it in the house is to defend your right to FREE SPEECH. The first right we have that'll be gone when a true faciast regieme takes over will be the right to keep and bear arms. Next will be freedom of speech...than so on and so forth.
Want to return to the old fronteer days do ya...I believe that in some parts of Texas it's still legal under State Law to carry a side arm.

The police asked my brother to carry a gun with him.
Bro used to have to carry lots of cash.
My brother refused on the grounds that if he did carry a piece then it would be found out and he would most likely get shot instead of just robbed.
Years later now --- nothing ever did happen. He is one smart cat.

Well, i know over here in Tennessee, everybody here in the country carries them anyways...that's just how everybody is in the mountains...but now they're requiring gun permits. So, if a cop sees you with a gun, just show him the permit, and you're good to go. But I think guns are a great thing for protection.
Guns don't kill people.......husbands who come home early do! *haha*

I don't care if it's OK or not nor if it's illegal or not.
With the amount of murders and 'thugs' out there I'm always carrying now. Get those chavs and criminals off the street and I won't carry a gun.

It is not a good idea, even if you have license to carry it.
