I am a school social worker and I love my job! I am stressed out at times but enjoy the very few thank yous and positive comments from parents and students. I have learned so much in the last 7 years and sometimes just knowing that you provide a listening to students that probably not valued is enough to be a social worker. If you enjoy working with kids and advocating for their needs, I say go for it! Not everyone can do social work, take a few courses and do an internship---this will help you to decide if school social work is the right choice for you! Good luck!

I will not set the precedent by making a lewd child abuse joke that can be easily extracted by your question; I am merely warning you that they will come in droves.
Sorry I couldn't provide a good story. Don't really know many social workers. But good luck; that's very kind of you to give your services; make sure to help though, as much and as often as possible; I'm sure there are some jerks out there that don't do anything.

you're not corny. it just means that your purpose is becoming more clear to you. at one point of someone's life,s/he will realize that there are things which could give deep happiness beyond what the senses can give. don't classify urself as being corny , i view it as, taking a courageous step to be indifferent.
i recommend you watch "PATCH ADAMS". :)
