depends. some bands can make a new song every day, but scrap most of them. Story of the year had around 70 potentials for their new album, but only 12 or 13 made it. It took them about 2 years. But the guy from Nine Inch Nails takes around 5 years.

It used to be an average of one album a year, but there has been a lot more pressure for artists lately from producers and labels to puch one out every 6 months.
Where I used to work, we released an album within 3 months. That was actual recording and mastering time.
If you include the planning, and concept phases, it was about a year of work.
Sometimes bands can delay their release. Usually this will happen so they can keep the songs in rotation through tour dates, or to avoid releasing against another release that might deter purchases.

Anywhere from a month to over a year. Depends on how picky the singer is, how complicated the song is, and what features the singer wants added.
