Great fun!
So what has changed? In the last 10 years, mobile phones have become so affordable that even school kids have them. What did we do before Mobiles? I’ll tell you: We escaped. My parents could watch me leave the door at nine in the morning and wouldn’t see me again for twelve hours, and they wouldn’t worry. I cycled a (conservative) 100 miles a day on the roads of north Germany (I was an army brat), and they didn’t have to know where I was every step of the way. I would be deep in the woods outside Braunschwieg with some of my closest friends, lost to the world and no-one would need to come looking until it was dark.
Our parents couldn’t find us, and we knew this. As long as we were out of hearing range, we were free. I belong to the last generation of children who could do this – even my younger brothers had phones from the age of 16 or 17 and these days you see 6 year olds with them. My first was when I was 20, and this was my own choice.
What else? We were allowed to hurt ourselves. Falling out of a tree was dangerous and painful, but you try very hard not to do it a second time. No-one ever had an eye out playing conkers, which the teachers joined in with. When I was eight, my teacher Mr Kohn had a Sixer which decimated all, and he didn’t go lightly on us, even the girls!

Yes I was a teen in the 80's and remember when MTV still played videos, the fun fashions, the hair bands, heavy metal, school was easier, and so many new things were coming around , video movies and stuff. SOme of the stuff is scary in retrospect but the 80's was an important decade in my life as it was the first one I can remember from beginning to end.

True, however it's always a lot of fun to be a kid, anytime. I grew up in the 60s and believe me it was just great.

The 80's was absolutely awful! The worst music, the worst movies, the worst clothes... thank God the 90's came in and cleaned house... thank God for the music of the 90's that took a big fat dump on all the crappy 80's music.

I think so, had an 80's party on Friday night - lots of brill memories. Some really bad outfits though!!
I think I look younger now than I did then because of what I wore and the awful hairstyle I had!

Yep. Yes roller skating, Duran Duran, Micheal Jackson prior to plastic surgery, the VCR, the intro of compact disks. The brat pack, shoulder pads, big hair....what more could you ask for.
