2000 is a world above 98 and Windows ME put together and is a more secure and less "buggy" OS than 98 ever was....alot of companies use the Windows 2000/NT format becasue of this and is a essentially a trouble free system,...great upgrade from 98 to 2000 if you can find it!1

Windows use to have to different version, one for home use and one for commercial/business use. Windows 98 is part of the home versions, while 2000 is for commercial/business use. Microsoft merged the two version with Windows XP.
Windows 2000 has more security features and is more difficult to configure. It is not recommended for home usage.
If you are thinking about upgraded, you want to go with XP, not 2000 as Microsoft is retiring 2000 and will no longer be supporting it.

Windows 2000 is much better than Win 98 and its newer. It also runs lots of new software that 98 doesn't.

Windows 98 was full of bugs for one thing. Windows 2000 is more secure runs on what is called a kernel which makes it more stable.

Windows 2000 has better security and the disk use/file system is NTFS not FAT which is more efficient.
