JEREMY PAXMAN: So you know what is going to become of all the major characters over the span of the series?
JK ROWLING: Yeah..yeah.
JEREMY PAXMAN: Why stop when they grow up? Might be interesting to know what becomes of Harry as an adult.
JK ROWLING: How do you know he'll still be alive?
JEREMY PAXMAN: Oh. At the end of book seven?
JK ROWLING: It would be one way to kill off the merchandising.
Will Harry die in book 7, go astray, mad, etc?

JK Rowling said recently that two main characters will die in the last book. I believe that would be Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort.

i've also heard that he is supposed to die, i thought that he is the final horicrux or however you spell it. Voldemort didn't kill him but instead put part of himself into harry. So if harry wants to destroy all of the talismans that keep voldemort in this world he will have to destroy himself. but voldemort has tried to kill him on more than one occasion so maybe my theory isn't right.

His body will be invaded by the spirit of Voldemort, and he will essentially die.
