My son was in a NICU unit for the first few weeks of his life because he was a preemie and those nurses in there work harder than any other nurse I have ever seen. I'm not sure ho much they get paid, but I am sure that it is not enough. They have to put IVs, feeding tubes, catheders in, weigh the baby's diapers to make sure that they are peeing and pooping enough, keep track of the baby's body temp...and lots of other duties. It is not easy, and it takes years of training.

I imagine they make good money but they work very hard and have very long hours

If you mean doc, I don't know exactly, but my husband is doing his residency in the NICU and he puts in such long hours, it is hard work.
