How much do you spend on groceries each week? I'm spending about 150.00 for a family of four. My husband thinks this is too much. What do you average?

That's about what I average also. My family likes the way I cook, I like to cook. And that's average. I recently quit my job and my husband now pays for the groceries. I have $150.00 every two and a half weeks to spend for a family of four. I cannot get it through his head that is a shoestring budget. I don't cook half the time anymore for him, I just make the kids mac and cheese from the box or top romen noodles. They don't complain and my stupid husband doesn't get the point. It's driving me crazy !! Food is one point in a family that should not be an issue. I'm wondering wether I want to stay in this marriage because it has become such a bone of contemption. You are right in this matter.

Like Fishgutts, we spend about $150 per week for a family of four. We too, only shop at Walmart where the prices are much lower than traditional supermarket chains. I clip coupons from the Sunday paper inserts, magazines, and even coupon websites. We also buy alot of the items that we use alot of in bulk. This saves lots of money. If your children are young enough, enroll them in the WIC program. Free milk is like free gold in our household!

I think you're doing pretty well! For my family of 3 I spend close to that amount--$100 to $120 average. I do live overseas where some items cost more than in the US, but other items are cheaper, so I consider my costs to be similar to what they would be in the States.

I got a family of five and I spend on the average $200.00 a week. One girl and 4 boys. We eat a lot.

For a family of 4, I don't believe that $150 is too much, especially if you have young children or even teenagers in the home. I generally spen (a month) $270.

That is about average. We spend that on 5 kids and 2 adults. Maybe a little more. Use store brands. And shop at Wal-mart.

Hi

I think it depends where you live, and whether or not you are buying meat, and if that covers 3 meals a day for all 4 people.

Some big $ items are:
- meat
- coffee
- soap, especially laundry soap and dishwasher soap
- cleaning products (baking soda is cheap)

It is sometimes cheaper to get fruit/veggies at a market, and check the shelf at the back of the market for deals.

My husband and I usually spend $150-175 a month on groceries...this doesn't include having to buy bread and milk when we run out or the milk goes bad....and hey....ya have to eat!
