Sometimes when I'm in the middle of a dream, I take note of some of the rediculous things that are happening, and I am somehow able to tell myself that I am dreaming. For example, I had a dream that was witnessing a gunfight with explosions in my high school, and In the middle of the dream I somehow determined that this was all fake and wasn't afraid to walk up right up to the gunmen and stop them. I think everybody has a lot of crazy dreams, but how come I don't always figure out that I'm dreaming until I wake up. How can my unconsious thoughts be controlled by my consious thoughts?

This is called lucid dreaming, only certain physcological types can do it. A good trick while your dreaming is to flick a light switch or look at a digital watch. Once you realize the switch isnt linked to the light, and the numbers are all jumbly on your watch, then you'll become lucid. Try flying while your lucid. Jumping high is easy, but flying horizontal is difficult since you need to be fabricating so many new images as you fly. Your brain will become overloaded and you normally wake up. Theres lots of other fun things to do, explore your mind a bit. I must warn you lucid dreaming does NOT contribute to your normal sleep cycle. Sometimes I wake up more tired than when I went to bed. Also, be careful because sometimes things will happen when your lucid and you will wake up thinking they actually did happen. Have fun!

I'm not too sure how that happens but it happens to me too! I can be dreaming and I'll know that I am dreaming.

One time I was dreaming that I could feel myself floating above my bed and I was kind of floating around the room sort of like something (or someone) was controlling me and I remember seeing my mom down the hall and I was yelling at her to help me but nothing was coming out of my mouth ( no sound). I remember kind of feeling possesed it my dream and I knew that I was dreaming because I kept telling myself in my dream that if I would just start praying, I would wake up. That was the only time that I ever had a dream like that and I hope it's the last!

Our brains can do a lot of strange things. I know what you are talking about because the same thing happens to me. Also, I can stop a dream, so to speak, get up to get a drink or whatever, go back to sleep and start the dream where it stopped. Now, figure that one out.
