Leiomyomas are benign soft-tissue neoplasms that arise from smooth muscle. They can develop wherever smooth muscle is present. Malignant transformation probably does not occur.
Three fairly distinct types of cutaneous leiomyomas exist: piloleiomyomas, angioleiomyomas, and genital leiomyomas. This classification reflects the most logical origin of the smooth muscle tumor and corresponds to the histologic or anatomic site where the leiomyomas are found. Piloleiomyomas are believed to arise from the arrector pili muscle of the pilosebaceous unit, whereas angioleiomyomas originate from smooth muscle (ie, tunica media) within the walls of arteries and veins. Leiomyomas derived from the dartos muscle of the scrotum and the labia majora, as well as those derived from the erectile muscle of the nipple, are classified as genital leiomyomas. Tumors in each classification have distinct clinical and/or histologic characteristics.
The pathogenesis of leiomyomas remains obscure. Angioleiomyomas and genital leiomyomas usually occur as solitary lesions, whereas piloleiomyomas may be either solitary or multiple, at times numbering in the thousands.

Leiomyoma: A benign tumor of smooth muscle, the type of muscle that is found in the heart and uterus. A leiomyoma of the uterus is commonly called a fibroid.

Uterine fibroids are the single most common indication for hysterectomy. Fibroids can be present and be inapparent. However, they are clinically apparent in up to 25% of women and cause significant morbidity, including prolonged or heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure or pain, and, in rare cases, reproductive dysfunction. Both the economic cost and the effect of fibroids on quality of life are substantial.

Fibroids are not cancerous. Drugs that manipulate the levels of steroid hormones are effective in treating fibroids but side-effects limit their long-term use. Fibroids may be removed if they cause discomfort or if they are associated with uterine bleeding. Surgery is the mainstay of fibroid treatment. In addition to hysterectomy and abdominal myomectomy, various minimally invasive procedures have been developed to remove fibroids.

So..
Holistic treatments take into account all the contributing factors of uterine fibroids and helps to not only remove the existing fibroids but also permanently prevents the development of fibroids in the future. With holistic treatments, your body will be able to rejuvenate itself from within and restore itself to a state of health and well being.
