And later it is found that the Iraq War was in fact not only unneccessary but also immoral, does that mean that people will reverse their opinions about our European Ally.

Geez... So much hate and misinformation in those answers! :'(

I guess I should reply, since I'm French, but I'll keep it short: i don't think it's possible to change your strange and hateful views on the world we live in.

The question is interesting: France refused to go into war, because they didn't believe in the ludicrous claims that there were weapons of mass destruction. Now, we know that there were none, why do some keep hating France?

A lot of you keep mentioning world war 2, and the fact that France surrendered as "proof" that all French are cowards.. This isn't only very insulting, it is also false: Yes, the "official" army accepted defeat (what would the US army do if another nation had taken over half the country, and Washington?), but the resistance was very much alive and many gave their lives so that American soldiers could arrive on D-DAY.

Winning that war was a "group effort" against tyranny, and you use it to promote hate.. Shame on you!

I do not hate France, however, people get hurt by the way they talk about their governments. To give you a simple, smaller example, the N-word. You have to agree that only other black people can use it against other black people, if someone else, a latin or white person go around using it, people will hate them and even hurt them . It doesn't get to the extreme with the French, but it is the same principle, Americans think that only they can talk bad about their government, if they are not american, or "black," then they should keep their mouths quiet. However, there is the big importance that the United States governemt has done all these things wrong with its foreign policy, so that means that other countries will judge what the US has done, that's why people get all pissy at the French. People should be able to take helpful critisism, and just to make another point, the french are not a muslim nation, and in actuallity, the European countries have been suffering of terrorist attacks way before 9/11, but the United States played the Isolationism card, and pretended that nothing was happening. It was about time the United States got involved, however they have done it not by forming an alliance with other countries that suffer of the same problem, like in World War !, they went all by themselves and have accomplished very little. If they had gone with an alliance, more would've been done and way faster. Oh and yes, just to make another point, all of these people that hate the French forget that if it wasn't for the French, the United States WOULD NOT be a country, they wold've never beat the English without the French, just ask any historian, they will tell you that that really happened./

No. My husband is now out of the U.S. Army, and you would be suprised what weapons HAVE been found and WHERE they were purchased from (in some cases France).

One time my husband and some troops (he was a team leader) were looking for insurgents in Eastern Europe (and yes we have troops there looking for them). By the time they got there, they had fled. Guess who tipped them off? I promise you that really happened.

Other people like to crack that the french are sissies because everytime there's been a war in Europe, they are first ones conquered. Or that they let a 14 year old girl lead their military (Joan of Arc) and then executed her later for heresay, which was politically motivated.

Sure a lot of people use their staunch opposition to the Iraq war as a main reason not to like France. But we bump heads with them on a lot of issues. Iraq is just the most popular right now. I personally think it's a lot of stupid reasons. I don't have a problem with France. It's all politics.

See that's where you are misinformed. France is no longer an ally of the United States. It has basically become another Muslim nation. France has always caused problems, then run...just because we faced our attackers head on in Afghanistan and then were proactive and went into Iraq, which, yes, I do believe we need to leave no so we do not have another Korean conflict, doesn't mean that there wasn't just cause. And for some reason people like you seem to overlook the mass graves and, oh yes, the missles that were found buried in Iraq.

France is not our ally.

In fact France supported and continues to give military support to the U.S. in the War on Terror, as it is being fought in Afghanistan.

Since Bush's attack on Iraq was a diversion from the action in Afghanistan, and since France is our ally, France chose to continue to support the United States by opposing Bush's mistake in Iraq. This was of course a difficult decision, as so many people were sure to mistakenly see this as a decision AGAINST the U.S.. It was not: opposition to the Bush administration IS support of the United States. The problem here is that the Bush administration and the American right are anti-American. France remains a loyal ally of the United States.

I doubt it. I think the main complaint about France is a little more involved then just the Iraq war. They didn't support us then, they didn't support us in the first Gulf War. They wouldn't allow our plains to travel over their air space when we bombed Libya in the 80's. Vietnam was originally French Indo China, and because of their bungling, we were dragged into Vietnam, American men and woman died in two world wars to liberate their country, and they continually are rude, arrogant, and obnoxious to us. I know this isn't true for all French citizens, but it is true for many if not most. Their lack of appreciation for our sacrifices for them, and their arrogant attitude towards us will continue to spawn dislike from Americans towards France.

My problem with France is that Parisians are some of the most snotty losers I've ever come across. Get rid of Parisians and France wouldn't be so bad. A French gal I used to work with went home and sent me a postcard that said,"I hate France! Everyone is so snobbish!" Gosh I miss that gal! We used to talk about food for hours!
