Well since I started a new job, I don't have any vacation time. I'm thinking of going on a long weekend getaway on labor day weekend. I live in the middle of Ohio, but would like to leave after work friday, drive no more than 4-5 hours and have a nice get away with my wife. Anybody know of good places to go.

Well, Chicago is about 6 hours from Columbus, so I'm not sure how far it is from you.

If you like hiking at all, I'd highly recommend anywhere in Hocking Hills. I've gone to Lake Hope for years. The cabins are pretty nice there.

Technically, Lake Erie has a beach, but it's not too pretty. However, it is fun to swim there, and Cedar Point is nearby.

I really like Put-in-Bay, which is not far from Cedar Point either.

A nice weekend could be a day or two at Cedar Point, a day or two in Put-in-Bay.

Cleveland would be fun too, if you like museums (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a science center there).

St. Louis, Niagara Falls (although labor day weekend the crowds could be unbelievable). South into Kentucky you would have louisville which is nice. Just a little south of there is Fort Knox. Not much further south you would have the Kentucky caves. Washington, DC is nice in March and April so I can't imagine it not being great in early September. I'm in northern Ohio east of Cleveland. Not much up this way unless you're interested in a day drive to see covered bridges. They're really cool but from where you are located you could be here in a couple hours and home the same night.
I think the Lucyfest in Jamestown, NY happens Labor Day Weekend which always is a blast if you are a Lucy Ball fan.

coming from the middle of OH, Pittsburgh is only about 3 hours away. we have the best baseball park in america (as well as the crappiest team so tickets are easy to come by) and one of the most unique city set-ups in america. its definitely a place to check out and dont be shocked when you see french-fries and coleslaw on your sandwich and not on the side.
