I did an advance search for "South African" and got a lot of bad or negative statements and question on Yahoo Answers. I also noticed that none of you guys replied to any of this. Why is that? Most of these guys are really bringing South Africa down. And I'm especially talking to the proud South African crew. Whazzap?

Hi Porgie

Usually I enjoy your questions and answers but with this one I'm afraid I have to disagree.

There may be many untruths on the Web about SA but there are also a number of facts which I find highly depressing.
SA does have an extremely serious crime problem and by remaining quiet, we are doing a great injustice to victims and fellow South Africans.

People may say that we should "stop whining" but I would answer that by arguing that a true "Proudly South African" would want to voice his/her concerns over what is happening and not hide behind a wall of "love SA so remain quiet". That smacks of apathy! We cannot remain idle when we officially have the highest rape in the world, and lead the averages in murder, armed heists, robberies and drugs.
As a person that loves SA, I am devastated every time I hear of yet another rape (especially those of babies) or murder and would wish that these things do not occur.
The best way to force drastic changes would be to be aggressive in voicing what is going on.

So to answer your question, I think a lot of people might not respond to negative questions because they desperately agree with what is being said.
I know that this is probably not the answer you were looking for but it is what many South Africans believe.

SA does have a lot of positive things to offer but it is vital that we knock out the bad ones first

Cheers

Hey Porgie!

Dont worry, we are all still here to respond to this negativity about South Africa!! People are believing what they are reading. Those pictures from that other link are from rotton.com. People will just immediately think it is true and wont find out the real facts.

To me people who believe all this rubbish are just lowering themselves because they dont know anything about South Africa and insist on thinking that they do.

Every country has their own crime, no country is perfect.

What people are doing is just hearing news and automatically thinking that South Africa is a terrible place. Id like to see what the Americans would do if i had to post something about them and call them disgusting and their president disgusting because of the 9/11!

Cheers, Kim!

Seems some people believe everything they read ! Maybe it will be better for the South African people if all these ignoramuses stay in their little bubbles and leave us to our lives of crime, HIV and poverty. Those of you who believe that there is more to the world than USA and Europe please come and enjoy the splendors of this great country with its great weather, sunshine, beautiful beaches, natural wild life (You don't only get animals in zoos you know!), diverse population, I could go on and on! CEO of SA Airway's room was robbed in Germany while watching the WC Football- crime does happen everywhere????? Don't knock it until you try it. To all those who lived here and moved for whatever reason- Fanks for leaving! Proudly South African till I die!

Hello Porgie.
Sometimes it's so annoying to argue with fools. People here who keep making negetive remarks about South Africa are absolutely and utterly illiterate. Remember, an empty vessel makes a lot of noise. You can't let yourself down by answering such people. We just need to respond only to those whose qoestions make sense. On the other hand, we need stupid people, their presence make us realize that we are not like them, hence we are not stupid. We should thank them for playing their role...And infact, we should invite them to ask even more stupid questions. It's the only way we can distinguish our own intellectual levels.

I pretty much feel like Diesel. I used to get so worked up! But now I realise that it all comes down to education and ignorance! And if they are stupid to believe that SA is all about crime/poverty/AIDS, then so be it. I am sick of hearing about it, hence why I don't even log on everyday anymore. I am especially sick of the ex-pats bringing SA's name down!
Better stop now before I go way off topic and get angry again!
