Yes. When you first go on it you usually have to get one. Then once a year after that as long as you are on it and a pelvic exam twice a year. But if you are sexually active you should be getting routine exams anyway.

If you are using birth control, then you may have sex without a condom. This puts you at an increased risk for exposure to HPV, the virus that is associated with cervical cancer. So 100% yes, you should have a pap smear and pelvic exam when you get put on birth control, and you should plan to have one every year for screening.

Pap smears are really not a big deal at all. They are quick and usually at worst a little uncomfortable.
