When are country was founded most Black were slaves and women couldn't vote or work. Did those respective developments "destroy society"?

I support Gay Marriage but I know the Christian Majority is against it. Fine. Just remove all legal benefits for marriage and it's no longer an infracture of the 14th Amendment.

P.S. Marriage doesn't support the procreation of society, there are plenty of kids today having babies outside of marriage, thank you.

I agree fully but it all comes down to people not wanting equal rights for those they consider wrong. As for USA based on religious values that is true but it was also based on the fact that all people have rights and the freedom to enjoy those rights even if someone else doesn't like it, which is why there is no "official" religion.

I think any kind of marriage should be a private affair. Our government is way too involved in our private lives.

We should be able to declare all legal benefits of marriage to any person we choose. What our country needs to do is allow its citizens to designate a "legal beneficiary" who is eligible to receive the same benefits as a "legal spouse."

So to answer this question, yes, marriage should strictly be a church function. Tell the government to get out of our lives!

Or make all secular marriages "civil unions". Legal benefits shouldn't have anything to do w/ religion, so I agree w/ you 100%. But there is not need to remove benefits, just make them available to everyone no matter how they were born.

Finally, someone with common sense.

The only question I would have: how do non-religious people then marry?
