My doctor told us to wait until our DD is a year. But my husband is allerigic to allot of fish, so I think that is why. I would think you could give it to them around nine months, the same time as for meat.
For a list of fish try:

Fish is extremely healthy for kids!! I give my son tuna and salmon at least twice a month. (He's 16 months old) The mercury things is not such a problem with farm raised fresh fish or with fish from the ocean. If you go fishing at your local lake, I wouldn't feed that to your kids, that's when you have the highest chance of finding high levels of mercury. But by all means... give your baby fish if he's old enough to digest meats (mine was 9 months the first time he had tuna fish) Try not to worry so much about what you feed your baby. Just be sure to steer clear of shellfish now though... as babies can be highly highly allergic and probably shouldn't have it until they're about 3 or 4. Good luck! Healthy Eating!

I would say almost as soon as they can eat solid foods, around 1 to 2 years old. I don't know what kind though. My family eats crapie, bass, and catfish most of the time so I'm not for sure on the type of fish.

As you are starting your child on solid foods, try mashing up some canned salmon and feed it to him/her, maybe mix with a little mayonnaise or whatever, starting with little bits as with any food to make sure there is no allergy, etc. It is a great idea to get your kid liking fish as it is a healthy food and not all of it is toxic, yet.

I would say around 18 months.....when he/she is able to hold finger foods and chew throughly. I would try those grilled fillets first cut into small pieces. Im not so sure that I would try salmon first......I would try maybe a broiled fish portion. Anyway, good luck.....it will be fine for the baby to eat fish.

Get a guide for mercury levels and consumption guidlines from your state Department of Natural Resources or online.
Your child can eat safe fish, without bones, as soon as that child can eat any other protien.

I was wondering this myself recently and read an artcile on americanbaby.com. It said because fish can cause an allergic reaction to stay away from it until they are 2. Personally I would ask the Dr. This is what I am going to do on my daughter's next visit.

My son's doctor said 15 months due to so many people havinf seafood allergies. He is 23 months now and LOVES seafood. Ask your child's doctor. Some say different things, but I think as long as there is no family history of food allergies you may be able to start them earlier.
