This is my first pregnancy and I wasn't able to get in to see my doctor until next monday, I figure that I am far enough along that I need to be watching what I eat though so I need to not wait until I go to the doctor to start. I also haven't started taking vitamins - what should I take or should I wait for the doctor's visit? Before I found out that I was pregnant I did drink occasionally but not excessively, do you think it may have caused defects?

Most foods are ok, but you want to avoid sage and parsley if you have had problems with milk production in the past - they decrease milk production. Many people say to avoid or at least limit fish and shellfish because of the mercury content, and I tend to agree with that. Of course, limit coffee and alcohol intake but I am sure you know that already.
As far as definite shoulds, Ginger if you are having morning sickness and make sure you get enough folic acid and antioxidants.

sushi
and if you or your partner like to fish and eat the fish you catch, check with your state to make sure they're safe to eat. I know a lot of places here in MI the fish aren't safe.

*edit*
you can get prenatal vitamins at just about any place. you don't even need a prescription. your doctor will tell you what to look for on the label. folic acid is the only one I can remember at the moment. as for the drinking, your baby should be ok, even if you had a drink before you found out. the fetus is really pretty resilient.

Avoid new foods and honey. And please eat folic acid. Your baby needs lots of folic acid right now.
