It seems highly unlikely. New powers can develop over time, but the World Cup is always, or pretty close to always, won by one of the established giants. That the next World Cup will be held in South Africa will at least get the South Africans into the tournament, but it might not be much of an advantage to the other African qualifiers, who will still have to travel a fair distance to South Africa. If any countries will benefit from the location, it will probably be Brazil and Argentina.
Nigeria seemed to be developing into a power for a while there, but they've fallen off. So I don't see any African team that is in a class with this year's quarterfinalists. It's a long road; the U.S., for example, got back into the World Cup in 1990, and sixteen years later, they are still not truly championship contenders.
So, I think Africa is a long way from winning the World Cup. I don't know if we'll even see it in our lifetimes, but almost certainly not soon.

I hope it is a reality soon. I think it would be wonderful for an African nation to win the World Cup of Football! Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana looked very strong to me. Angola and Togo looked strong as well. I think all these teams were victimised by poor officiating during this past World Cup. They did not get some obvious calls and some very bad calls went against them. It will help to have the World Cup played in Sough Africa in four years. If one African team cannot step up and win the World Cup then I hope one can make the championship game or at least two African teams in the semi-finals... Time will tell...

I assume your question means are we close to an African country winning the World Cup.
The answer is yes based on the following:
According to Wikipedia 10 of the 13 players used by France in yesterday's World Cup final were either born in Africa or were of African descent.
Thuram,
Gallas,
Abidal,
Vieira
Makelele,
Zidane
Malouda,
Henry
Diarra
Wiltord
The above players were fortunate that they were brought up in France where the education system allows for sports and free time to play or practise.
As African countries economies develop over the next 20 years and children spend more time in the classroom and less working in fields or factories (the sooner the better) they will develop more sporting skills.
While it may be a little too early to expect 2010 it is a real possibility for an African nation to win in 2014 or 2018.

Look at Greece - you can't rule them out.
The Ivory Coast looked great in the group stages, if they'd had a softer group they'd probably have got to the KO stage.
Ghana looked good too.
'Home' advantage in Africa will help too. Particularly since the climate will probably cause problems for many of the other countries.
But you've still got to beat some strong teams to win it.
In 2010 I'd give them collectively a...
1 in 12 chance.

I should imagine because of the location, weather and fanbase there's a pretty solid chance of seeing one of the African teams in the 2010 quarters at least...
Ivory Coast would be a good bet to put a quid on...

A semi finalist will come from Africa in the next world cup. A winner? 8-12 years.

If they played for their Country of birth instead of their former Colonial rulers and they had more players playing in the top European leagues then maybe by 2014.
