It's reasonable. I'm a smoker and my company had banned all smoking on the property. But after realizing that they cannot change a persons lifestyle choice they built is a bustop like facility to smoke in even in poor weather.

I live in Mpls and I was still a smoker when the ban was enacted. While initially opposed to it, I eventually found it agreeable because 1) It forced me to regulate my smoking when at a bar (I didn't want to be going outside every 20 minutes, especially in the winter), and 2) I found I liked coming home from the bar not reeking of smoke. I haven't smoked for over a year, and I of course find the ban even more agreeable. I also realize how inconsiderate I was! But alas, that's what addiction does to a person. Not everyone goes to a bar to binge drink or stuff their faces with cheese curds or bacon cheeseburgers. Some people actually like to go to have a glass of wine or a couple beers and socialize without the drunken slobbering. Believe it or not, you can be health- conscious and still enjoy the nightlife! While the harmful effects of second-hand smoke may be open to debate (and I really think not), what is undisputable is that it is unpleasant. It is a stink. Having once smoked, I understand how it can be perceived differently by a smoker, however. I do hope the ban stays put here - I feel sorry for the wise and wisened-up patrons in Louisville who once again have to deal with thoughtless smokers!

I'm all for a ban on smoking in or near public places. I'm a former smoker so I know how addictive it is. But there is no reason nonsmokers should have to walk through a cloud of secondhand smoke to get into a restaurant, hospital, store, etc. I remember a time several years ago when I was sitting in the stands at a baseball game in a cloud of secondhand smoke. I politely asked the man if he'd stop. His response was very crude and to light up another cigarette. So, we moved away from him. It's about time that nonsmokers had some rights. Especially the children.

Smoking should be banned because it is a bad habit which causes humans to rely on it for pleasure. Many people develop cancers of all kinds from their persistence in using various smoking materials. Preservatives are used in these products which help people to kill themselves. Since people don't really know what is going on, they buy into the fact that cigarettes, cigars, pipes, etc. look sophisticated and "everybody is doing it." I have asthma and so do some of my family members. However, a stubborn person will not listen to common sense. Only when the person finds that they are getting very sick from something, do they usually try and stop doing it.
Since everyone in the public needs to lead healthy lives, I feel that a ban on smoking is an excellent move. We elected our public officials to make wise choices for us. This is certainly one of them. Remember this, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31. Peace and God Bless.

I personally think it is great (cuz I am a non-smoker with asthma too.) Also, it seems that people who smoke tend to get more breaks at work than non-smokers do. I'm just saying.....it looks that way to me.
Also, ever walk by a group of smokers when you are about to walk in a business door and they all stop talking (and puffing) to take a look at you? How freakin' uncomfortable that is.
One more thing---won't it be nice not to have so many nasty cigarette butts lying all over the ground by your office building door? I swear, smokers don't seem to think that throwing a butt on the ground is the same thing as littering.
Ugh.

I completely disagree with it. You ban smoking indoors, you now want to ban smoking outdoors too? Jeez, give me a break. Some people like to smoke. I myself just quit for financial reasons. Still, this is America and people should be free to smoke a cigarette should they so choose. Your child has athsma? Then don't walk by that entrance, or just tell the kid to not breathe. The few seconds it takes to walk past a smoker are easy enough to hold your breath for if you're so offended by it.

I am not a smoker but I vote no to the smoking bans... Ok you want to ban than ban all machinery of every kind that emits fumes (smoke.) I mean all fuel run implements from oil furnaces that keep us warm to all farm implements that bring in the crops... I am talking shut down boats, planes, cars, fourteen wheelers, and any business everything that emits anything that effects my health. Than lets move on to no use of perfumes, bug sprays, pesticides... wow this list can add up so fast... Cause ppl it is all bad for your health and our environment and we should not pick on one thing like SMOKING. I lived next to a paper mill and had to move due to my asthma. I think the paper mill should of shut down. No one is doing a darn thing about the big things that ruin our health and this planet... we are just picking on one thing to feel some sorta accomplishment.... However, this said... I lack power to do anything.. I feel powerless, I write my politicians...... nothing...

If you could use your tobacco without making other people breathe it or smell it, I'd say go ahead and do it whereever you want. Since smokers choose to use their drug in a way that affects everyone around them, I think they should exercise some consideration and remove themselves to places where non-smokers don't have to breathe the air.
I personally think smoking should only be allowed inside a fume hood (as in some airports) which totally sucks away all of the smoke.

I used to smoke and I am totally for it. My guy just had surgery in which they removed one of his phrenic nerves, without a lot of explanation it means his diaphragm doesn't work. I wonder how many people I made uncomfortable with conditions like this when I smoked and hope that current smokers respect them in light of the fact that there are some people out there who are genuinely sick and aren't just sporting fake coughs to be jerks.

I hope the whole country eventually bans all smoking in public places even on the streets. You could only smoke in your home. I'm sure the tobacco industry and smokers would like to pop me, but this is my opinion.
