K well I am about to turn 18 in September but I have a problem. Both my best friends and my boyfriend want to take me out and on top of that my parents want to throw me a huge party. So I am confused. I don't want to choose my friends over my boyfriend and vice versa but I don't want to upset my parents either. Any ideas?

Also I don't know if I am up for a huge party. I had a sweet 16 party and it was great and all but I just don't know if thats what I want.

Legally you are an adult and that's a great thing to celebrate. You can make a difference by voting, you can move out on your own, go off to college and so much more.

My suggestion is to surround yourself with the people that love you - your family, friends, and boyfriend. Let them share their happy memories with you and favorite photos. Instead of a party where everyone drinks or tries not to be bored, let it be a time to honor you and give you advice about the future.

When my children were born, we had a christening and I had everyone sign a book with their advice, thoughts and dreams for my twins. My plan was to use that book on their 18th birthday for a similar purpose - to celebrate life.

Happy birthday!

Why not have the parents' party around noon, party with your friends in the late afternoon, and then celebrate with just your boyfriend from 8pm until however long you are allowed to stay out.
