i live in toronto ontario canada and my boyfriend wants to test video games for money. is there any toronto based game companies where he might apply for a job?

i have some advice for him. i was a video game tester at thq for a long time. i thought it would be my dream job. i was wrong. i was put on a game that i hated (full spectrum warrior: ten hammers), the hours were long, the pay was only $9.50 an hour, and we got no thank yous from anyone. they can literally tell you that you have to work another 24 hours right when your 8 hour shift is about to end. most companies only hire testers for one game and then let them go. i was lucky enough to be on about five titles in all. i thought that if i became a tester that i would have a future in the game industry...the reality is that very few make it in before they are either fired or quit because of the hours. anyway, that's my experience as an ex game tester. you may not want to listen to me because you don't really even know who i am. but tell your boyfriend exactly what i told you. when things get bad at wherever he tests, he will remember the guy who warned you about that kind of work. i have no place to recommend. i highly suggest that he not work as a tester. it almost ruined my relationship with my girl and i was always tired from working days on end. good luck.

I also live in Toronto, check the free magazines, Metro and 24 Hours, there are advertisements in them that are recruiting for game testers and designers.

You can find a few ways to get paid to play games. Some market research companies are willing to mail you their video games, new consoles and related products so that you can test them. Then you send them your input and then they will send you payment. The difficult part is getting a list of the legitimate businesses.

That sounds like a fun job but it would be better to make your own video games and then test them.
