My friend went to a tanning salon while she was on vacation in California and she isn't even a teenager yet and before she went there she e-mailed me that she was going to a tanning salon and when I e-mailed her that she could damage her skin if she goes there, her cousin that she was staying with e-mailed me back that I am stupid and jealous and very very mean things and told me that she won't get skin cancer and I am a wanna be but I think now that she went there she could get skin cancer. Could going to a tanning salon damage your body and,or your skin?

Going once, isn't going to damage, but those girls that fake and bake 3-4 times a week, and look like a peeling orange, yeah, they're going to be really ugly when they hit 30 or 40. They may think they look hot now, though.

A tanning salon (they're really big here in Southern California) isn't the greatest thing for your skin. The bulbs used to obtain the tan have ultra violet light and that is the problem. These rays that make you artificially tan can harm the skin. If you went once or twice, don't worry, but continued use can be harmful. The best way to get a tan without the sun is to use the self-tanners. I use Lancomb and that works well for me. A friend uses Clarion, and that is good for her. Experiment with a better brand of self-tanning lotions. Apply with care and always wash your hands really well after using to avoid tan streaks (uneven) on your hands. Also, apply lightly a few nights in a row not heavy for one or two nights. (I use before bed, but can be applied anytime before dressing, just wait 1/2 hour before touching with clothing)

Its no diff. Sun or tanning salon you are damaging your skin. Turning tan is your skins defense against the sun. Yes the lights at a tanning salon can give you cancer just as the sun can. NO MATTER WHAT THE SALON TELLS YOU. Its their business to make money off of you.

Going to a tanning salon is bad because, it still damages your skin if you go there all the time, there is a healthy way to tan , which is to use a tanning lotion, which makes you have a tan, use Olay products to help enhance your tan.

YES!

Tanning beds (or any tanning) is horrible for your skin!!! One session won't cause skin cancer, but any time your skin tans (real tan, not fake tan) it has been damaged. Sun damage is the #1 cause of wrinkles, spots & premature aging, not to mention increasing the risk of skin cancer. You're smart to stay out of them!

Yes. They even have warnings at the salon that it can damage your skin and sometimes give you skin cancer. But lots of people go anyway because they get tan faster and its easier.

Exposure to UV radiation from the sun or a tanning bed will cause several effects:

-Darkening of the skin (ie. tan)

-Skin damage with increased exposure including premature wrinkles and increased risk of skin cancer

-Production of vitamin D within the body.

Yes it could cause cancer, even too much exposure to natural sunlight could be dangerous.
So watch out, ask the saloon people to use some sun block, but that may retard the tanning process.
Good luck

Anything in moderation. I have gone a couple of times, if I was going away or going to a wedding, but I don't make it a habit. Long term use is definitely not healthy, but if you only do it a couple times in life, it won't hurt you
