I watch the replay again n again, found materazzi shouldn' have said anything so serious that he deserved a head-butt. look at his expression!! zidane did say something too. maybe they two did say bad things to each other. it wouldn't be all materazzi's fault. watch the replay! zidane was in front of materazzi n suddelny he turned back n was about to provoked materazzi but materazzi didn't look aware at all. maybe he didn't expect zidane would hurt him. if he did insult zidane so badly.. he would have been self-aware. Whatever..!! zidane, a so-called great player shouldn't have done such stupid things. he knocked out his own country. he should have controlled his temper better

I agree, I dont know why people were trying to defend Zidane's actions, what he did was wrong. It doesnt matter what was said, and it didnt look like much was said, you cant react that way.

Oh, hell.. I admit that what Zizou has done is a mistake deserved a red card. But it was his own freaky anger? If he is that freaky, he'll lose control dozen times before in that game.. :( Why waited?

I really do not understand why so many people DEFEND MATERAZZI? Putting all the blame on Zizou, saying things like French is a bad loser... :(

To be fair, Zizou made mistake by head-butting Materazzi. But.. Materazzi must have his share of mistake too! There wouldn't be reaction without an action. And if you really, really, really watch the replay carefully, you'll see that it was Materazzi who kept talking, and talking, and talking. Zizou did answer, but Materazzi kept talking.

In my humble opinion, it shows something: Materazzi said too much, while Zizou tried to control his patience until he hit the wall.

It's so ashamed that people - who claim to have seen the replay - still demonize Zizou dan make Materazzi look like an angel.. :(

Or.. is it that difficult to accept that the winning party make a mistake? And it will be a just cause to say that Italian is not a good winner, don't you think? As the real winner will accept they make mistakes too.. ;)

PS: Oh, one more thing... ;) I'm not a French citizen trying to defend my hero.. :) My country even didn't participate in this game.. ;)

I am not so sure if that is a question or statement. For what I believe, it is likely that you are not aware that there is no smoke when there is no fire. There is no reaction when there is no stimulus, Right? I also saw the game, and I know exactly that Materazzi said someting that pissed Zidane off. The point is, I am not a French, but I truly admire Zidane for his achievements in football. It is not "Zidanism" when Zidane attack someone without something. Btw, let me say something for Zidane: "You will always be remembered, Zidane". "I am a man, I ain't gay, but I love Zidane"

you are entitled to your opinion....but apparantly you didn't look at all the facts....first of all you say zizou is a "so-called" great player....have you even followed his career? this man is a legend!! how about checking out this link first and then you can tell me about all of his achievements and his "so-called" greatness ok? good go here now

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinedine_Zidane

now, don't you think that if zidane had a "freaky anger problem" that the world would have realised it in his style of play and his actions at the BEGINNING of his professional career....not near the END? that makes sense right? now if zidane had a freaky anger problem...he probably would be causing dirty fouls on other players...having unneeded physical contact, and getting carded in every game...does this EVER happen? i'll answer that for you...NO! everyone knows materazzi must have really said something extremeley offensive to zidane for such a classy player to react that way....your statement doesn't even make logical sense! the italians most likely had it planned to have zidane kicked out of the game before pks...because don't you think if materazzi looked that smug, he knew what was going to happen? if he was really angry with zidane they would have been screaming at each other not having casual conversation...that makes sense right? don't you think that zidane has been insulted multiple times on the pitch and don't you think he has ingnored those insults and went on to score and defeat his opposing teams? well....check the link again because there is evidence of his successes in there. zidane was patient with materazzi's remarks other wise why do you think he walked away and then proceded to WALK BACK??? zinedine zidane had his line crossed and he had to do something about it....materazzi got what he deserved and you know what? zizou STILL got the golden ball award and is still one of the most respected and legendary footballers in all of history....so there you have it....maybe you should think logically and use your commen sense next time before you make such an outlandish statement. :)

Words were definately shared between those two. Watch the whole replay...Zidane is walking away, done with the guy, then all of a sudden turns around and nails him. I think Materazzi popped-off one last time, maybe thinking Zidane couldn't hear him and Zidane, who was injured and frustrated just snapped. No excuse really but it happens especially between fiercly competitive people

I know that there is a lot of speculations around what happened at the final. Here are some articles from BBC. I think that at Zidane's professional level it had to be something really awful for him to react that way especially in a final, that doesn't make it right, but lets be fair about this before making judgement.

At some point Zidane will issue a statement that will explain his side of the incident. I think that if it is as ugly as it seems then action should be taken against the Italian player but that's between Zidane and the Italian player and it should be settled in court or with Fifa!!! Some players do take things too far and if they cross the line they should not be allowed to get away with it imo.

Unless you understand whatever language they were speaking and can lip read to, how can you tell that "materazzi shouldn' have said anything so serious?" Obviously, Zidane didn't randomly headbutt an Italian player because he was frustrated. There were definitely word exchanged that just was the last straw for Zidane.

I am so sure that materazzi is the bad guy. I believe that zidane is not an easily bad tempered guy unless the speech the materazzi said is too ridiculous. i think France should have win too if not for the referee that is bias..

I personally have been watching and playing soccer for years now and I can vouch that Zidane has always had a bad temper in the European league ever since I've been watching and has been since before Zidane. Zidane is purely a French A**HOLE and I am glad that he will go down in World Cup history as a French LOSER.

They had an italian lip reader check what materazzi said:
"I wish an ugly death upon you and your family" - the day Zidane learned his mother was seriously ill. Materazzi then said - "Go F*ck yourself"... I think he got what was coming to him and am behind Zidane.

OK, here is the answer. The BBC got an Italian lip reader to check out what was said to Zidane.

M: Grabs Zidane's nipple.
Zidane says something.
M: No. Calm down, liar. I wish an ugly death to you and all your family. [Z's mother was seriously ill]
M: Go f u c k yourself.

Z turns round and knocks M to the ground. With his head.
