We have always don it a 5 pm because that is when people start eating dinner... and good night at 7pm because this is when others have super so good evening doesn't last very long. this is why it is confusing to some as to when to say it...if you deal with a farm it is an hour earlier on the evening and an hour later for the goodnight because of the light needed for work....not interrupting their schedule to get things don....

When the sun goes down. The time between noon and sunset is afternoon. The sun touching the horizon marks the beginning of evening.

i tend to stop saying good afternoon around five pm i work in a call centre and most of my collegues do the same hope this helps

6pm - that's when the evening news is on, so that's what I go by. I guess I'd let 7pm be ok too, but 5pm is too early, most peeps haven't even got left work yet- plus neighbours hasn't been on yet!
