Do you use seeds or cuttings? If it's cuttings, what's the best way to root them?

Seeds? Cuttings? How do you start the cuttings? Do you put them in water until they grow roots? If you use a rooting powder, do you just dip the cutting in the powder and plant it?

I had a French woman for a client(landscaper) for awhile. She taught me how to make cuttings. I made about 100 Lavender plants from cuttings and made wonderful hedges for her rose garden.

Use green stems not brown woody stems. Cut off the plant a piece about 4 to 6 inches long without flowers just below 2 leaves. Gently pull down to remove the lower half of leaves. They just pull right off if pulled down. Fill a pot or a flat or a bunch of small pots with potting soil. Buy some kind of rooting hormone. I use Rootone. Use a pencil, stick or something pointy to poke holes in the soil of the pots where the cuttings will go. That way when you put the dipped cuttings in the holes it won't brush off the hormone. Dip the cutting in rooting hormone then directly put it in the soil holes you made. You can put a bunch of cuttings in the same pot. When you are finished pack down the soil around all the cuttings and water gently. Keep in a semi-shady location. When you see new growth appear there should be roots below. After about maybe 2 months they should be ready to transplant. Have fun :-)

It's kind of hard to grow lavender from seeds. I like the instructions given above for taking cuttings.
