Ringing in the ear means that there is too much difference in air pressure in the middle ear (after the timpanic membrane) and the outer ear (before the TM). Altitude could be a factor, but so could blood pressure. Your physician should do an elimination process for you to know roughly, the cause of the ringing. It might range from diet, hairline tear in the TM or even heriderity conditions such as high blood pressure :)

You should see a good ent doctor. I had ringing in my ears for years, than I sometimes would get pain in one ear. Found out after an MRI on my head that I had had an acoustic neuroma that was 2.5 centimeters. It had been growing very slowly for the past 10 to 15 years the doc said.

If your ears are full of wax it will cause it to ring. Use peroxide in the ear. Let it set there for about 3 min. or so for a week and see if that will help. My Doctor had my son do that. It worked for him.
Ringing in the ear can also be something serious. If the peroxide doesn't do any good go to a differnt doctor and see what they think.

It may be a blood sugar problem or an allergy to food. You can easily test this by paying attention to the ringing when you eat different foods. Start with a sweet food like an ice cream and you'll immediately hear about it if sweets is a factor.

a lot of people have tinitus, and often there is nothing they can do about it. flushing your ear passages probably wont help, it has more to do with the nerve and choclea (i think, might be wrong)
