Like virtually everything it touches, TV has destroyed the All-Star game. The Home Run derby is a cheap rip-off of the NBA slam dunk competition. The editing and the "flash-flash-flash" and the endless hype in the middle of the game is nauseating. Buck and McCarver say 10,000 words when three will do: they NEVER let the game speak for itself. The overly hyped "pre-game ceremony" (oh, get out the hankies, we're gonna cry!); the overly siliconed bleach blond dugout reports (oh, Jim - this could be a big game tonight); the overly dramatized segment about the host city coming back from its industrial past (watch for that one - Pittsburgh and railroads and steel mills); the commercial every 7 seconds before the game; and the fact that the game doesn't actually start 'til about 1:35am Eastern time makes the game have less integrity than a prostitutes convention.

I never watch it anymore, and I used to love baseball - but its not about baseball anymore.

Its about ... hand me the f?cking barf bag!!!

GAK!
