Some are French only by citizenship. Trezeguet, Makelele, Thuram and Thierry Henry are African, but they have a French citizenship and are born in France. I know that Makelele is from Congo and Thierry Henry is from the West Indies. There are two or three white french players in the French team but the majority is of African descent.

That's not important - thinking in terms like that is why the French muslim youth feel like such outsiders in France - even those who have been living there for their whole lives. "French" isn't determined by their place of birth any more than "American" is.
