if you're using win xp (2000 as well, i think) then find the file you'd like to use (you can probably find the "you got mail" for free online).

go to "control panel" > "Sounds and audio devices", click on the Sounds tab. in the program events box at the bottom scroll down until you find the "New Mail notification", highlight and click browse. go to the "you've got mail" file and select...that's it...

You have to download the audio file (you've got mail).
Then go in your email program settings and select the audio file for incoming mail.

Then every time you get mail it will say, "you've got mail".

look in your email program's preferences, and find the sound that it plays when you have new mail. change that file to a clip saying you've got mail, which you can probably download. you'll have to keep your email program open though

If you're using a program like outlook or outlook express, you will have to set it up to routinely check your mail, then set up a sound file to alert you when new mail has arrived.
